The district of Churachandpur derives its name from the town of Churachandpur after Sir Churachand Singh, the Maharaja of Manipur and occupies the south-west part of Manipur state.It is the largest district of Manipur in terms of area.Surrounded by small hills and narrow valleys.Churachandpur which is locally called Lamka, has a deep historical significance. Located at a distance of approx 63 km from the capital of the state, Imphal, Churachandpur is believed to have witnessed a lot of bombing when the Japanese entered India. The district is bounded on the north by Tamenglong District, on the east by the districts of Imphal and Chandel, on the south by Myanmar (Burma) and Mizoram and on the west by the State of Mizoram and Assam. The topography of the district is hilly. The region became the home of more than 30 ethnic groups at historical time, with varying responses to the changing geo-cultural environment.

Tamenglong is located in western Manipur lying on the hilltop from which descends the Barak River. It is 160 km west of Imphal, Manipur's capital city and the rainiest hill station of Manipur. The topography of the district is generally hilly with steep slopes with a small valley.Tamenglong has a topography of irregular undulation with turbulent rivers, waterfalls, caves, lakes, and dense tropical forests covering the land. The Tamenglong District is dominated by different communities like Rongmei, Zemei, Liangmei, Inpui, Hmar, Kuki, Chiru, Khasi, Mirki, Paite and Gangte etc. All of them belong to the Scheduled tribe.

Bishnupur is 27 Kms away from Imphal. Bishnupur derived its name from an ancient Vishnu temple located in the town which was established in 15th Century. Bishnupur is home to the dancing deer—sangai. It is the only place where this rare breed of deer can be found in the world today.Loktak Lake is the largest freshwater lake in India is located at Moirang. Bishnupur was one of the sites of the World War II where fierce fighting between the Allied Forces and the Japanese Forces took place. The Indian National Army hoisted the Tricolour for the first time on Indian soil on 14 April 1944, in Moirang . Meities constitute the najority population in the district.

The District lies in the south-eastern part of Manipur and its about 64 Km away from Imphal. About 20 tribal communities have been living in Chandel for generations. Some of the prominent tribes are Mayon, Anal, Maring, Kukis, Paite, Chothe and Thadou. Yangoupokpi-Lokchao Wildlife Sanctuary is located in Chandel District along the Indo-Myanmar Border. This is Sanctuary is a treasure trove for lovers of wildlife and has a wide variety of species are found of Orchid, several Ornamental plants, and some very useful medicinal plants.

Thoubal district is bounded by Senapati district on the north, Ukhrul and Chandel districts on the east, Churchandpur and Bishnupur districts on the south and Imphal West and Imphal East districts on the west .It’s about 40kms from Imphal City. The name 'Thoubal' comes from 'Athouba' meaning brave people symbolising the courageous people of the district. This district is known for Khongjom, where the last battle of the independence of Manipur was fought in April 1891 against t he British army. It is also the window to South-East Asia as the Trans-Asian highway (AH1) passes through it.This district is a part of the valley, the area of the district is not entirely plain. The State of Manipur used to supplement its meager resources from the annual lease of the lakes in the past.The district has three community development blocks namely (1)Lilong (2)Thoubal and (3) Wangjing Tentha It has 6 main towns. namely, Lilong ( Thoubal ), Thoubal,Yairipok, Shikhong Sekmai, Wangjing Lamding, and Heirok are municipalities under Thoubal District.

Ukhurl district is known for its scenic beauty, pristine climate and the rare Shirui Lily, the hill-station of Ukhrul is about 103 kms from Manipur’s capital Imphal. With Mongol origins, the Tangkhuls were believed to have come from China centuries ago.The state flower of Manipur, Shirui Lily, also called Shirui Lily or Lilium Macklinae is a rare pinkish white flower found only in the Shirui Hill Range in the Ukhrul District of Manipur. Besides the Shirui lily, the district is known for many natural wonders like the Khangkhui Mangsor, Mova (cave) which is one of the oldest archaeological cave of India.

Kamjong District is a newly created district on 8 December 2016 and shares a long international border with Myanmar. It is bounded by Myanmar in the east, Senapati in the West, Ukhrul in the North and Chandel in the South. The terrain of the district is hilly with varying heights of 913 m to 3114 m (MSL). The district headquarter is linked with state highway of 120 Km from Imphal.c There are 4 sub-divisions in Kamjong district:Kamjong,Sahamphung,Kasom Khullen,Phungyar. Majority of the inhabitants are from Tangkhul Naga tribe. This district is famous for the Wuyawon flower which is pinkish in colour and blooms beautifully at around the month of July covering its hills.

Senapati District is located in the northern part of Manipur bordered by Phek district on the North( Nagaland), Tamenglong District on the West, Imphal East and West District on the South and Ukhrul district on the east. The general topography of the district is hilly. The hills run in the north to south alignment gradually sloping down to south meeting the plain of Manipur valley. Senapati District is known for its kaleidoscopic landscape of blue hills, green valleys, serpentine streams and rivers flowing through mountains and deep gorges making it a perfect outdoor location in Manipur A popular attraction in the Senapati District is the mesmerizing Dzuko Valley The land is rich of flora and fauna. The forest is adorned with centuries old trees. The district comes under humid Sub-tropical climate.

Tengnoupal district is a new district in Manipur, India created by splitting the Chandel district on December 2016. The name Tengnoupal is derived from cactus fencing (teng = cactus and pal = fence). It was named after the Awa Laan (Manipur-Burmese War) in the 16th century as cactus was planted as a fencing in Tengnoupal Hill range to defend against the invasion of Burmese to the Meitei kingdom of the Imphal Valley. It’s located about 65 kms south-southeast of Imphal, the state capital, at the highest point of a road between Imphal and northwestern Myanmar (Burma). This area was invaded by the Chinese in 1631 and was bombed by the Japanese in 1942 during World War II.The general topography of the district is hilly. The Sub-divisions : Moreh, Machi and Tengnoupal are under Tengnoupal District. Moreh plays a very important role in connection with the India-Myanmar relationship and is also a rapidly developing trade point in India on the border with Myanmar, with the city of Tamu on the other side of the border. The Indo-Myanmar Friendship Bridge in Moreh connects India to Kalewa in Myanmar’s Sagaing Division.The town is already seen as the commercial capital of Manipur and India’s Gateway to South-East Asia.

Kakching District is one of the newly formed district of Manipur on December, 2016 and it is located in the southern part of Imphal valley. It’s about 44 km from the state capital at Imphal, and about 70 km from the international border with Burma. Kakching is known as the granary of Manipur. Its workers produce the highest percentage of food grains in the state. Hand-loom and handicraft products are also made in high volume for the Kakching market. Socially the town is exceptionally wealthy in numerous fields, for example, Nat Sankritan, Meitei pung cholom, Martial Arts, Thang-Ta, Satjal, Mukna, and Kangjei.Kakching has the highest literacy rate in the state of Manipur. During the Second World War and as part of campaigns against the Indian National Army and its allies, the British Government in India constructed an aerodrome in Kakching which provided the British Army with vital arms, ammunition and food. Today the site is occupied mostly by the Assam Rifles and partially converted into paddy fields by local farmers. Indian national hero, Subhas Chandra Bose, took his last flight from the aerodrome after the war before his controversial death.

Pherzawl District is located in the southern part of the state of Manipur.
